Chapter 1

Newbie

My dad’s surname is Xu while my mom’s is Qian, so they gave me the name Xu Duo Qian.  I want to vomit blood, but back then, I was an infant so naturally I have no say.  (TN: Her name is 许多钱, it literally means a good deal of money/rich.  The character ‘duo’ in her name means a lot, ‘qian’ means money TT)

From the moment I entered school, this name became my nightmare.  In kindergarten, a fat boy would always tug on my hair and says, “Xu Duo Qian, are your family really that rich!”  Cue the sound of children’s laughter.  I could only turn a blind eye at that and ignored them.  When I got home, I would beg my parents to change my name.  but they would sweet-talk me in return, saying my name is auspicious or something and said that I will not worry about food and clothes in the future if I stick with that name.

So after that, I no longer brings up the changing name thing even though I got poked fun at everytime I entered new school, “Xu Duo Qian, had your parents turned crazy from being too poor?  Why did they give you this name?” “Xu Duo Qian, I think you will marry a Jin Yuan Bao in the future! Haha,” I endured them all!  I am above fighting those little arrogant villains!  (I’d lose even if I fight them anyway.  An entire gang against one person….. I can’t scold them even if I want to.)

So just like that, I endured until I finished with school.  For a woman like me who lacks three things (lack appearance, lack talent and lack background), I obtained a job in a small company after quite a struggle.   But everyday at work, other than doing my job I also have to do tea, takes out the garbage and cleans the office.  To sugarcoat it: since I am a new recruit, this is somewhat an inofficial review of my performance.  If I do well, the possibilities of my future is endless.

But sugarcoating aside, I, this newbie is being bullied!  I really wants to fry those squids, drop everything and leave!   But I can’t ah, it’s really hard to find jobs these days and I am a woman who lacks all three things.  I can only choose to endure.

Like every other day, I enter the office and put my bag on the desk and goes right to cleaning.  What is this?  It is glued to the floor.  This damn Liu Jie, she actually spits her bubblegum to the floor.  Will the few steps to the trashcan kill her?

“Xiao Xu, get me a cup of coffee.”  Director Chen who is sitting on the sofa flips the pages of his newspaper.  He is bald like a monk and is bespectacled.  If he isn’t the director, she will not even bother to make him coffee.

“Yes, director sir.  I will immediately make you one.” She gives him a beautiful smile and said that in a beautiful tone.  She really admires her own acting skills.

“I also want a cup of coffee.  Sugarless.”  Liu Jie said to her.  “Xiao Xu, I want a green tea.” “The beautiful Xiao Xu Meimei, bring this brother water.”  Are they done or not??  “Alright, alright!  It will come soon!”  She immediately goes to the tea room while brimming in the desire to kill everyone.  She is not a tea girl nor is she a cleaning lady.  She is a regular worker, just like the rest of them.

After finishing the errand, she sits behind her computer.  Before her seats even gets to warm up, Liu Jie that old witch’s voice drifts in, “Xiao Xu, go and buy me a bag of melon seeds.”  These people really can’t bear to see her rest, can they?  And she’s not even resting, she has works to do.

She mumbles under her breath as she runs out of the office, the same kind of drama plays over and over again everyday.

Will I, Xu Duo Qian’s life continue to be this unbearable?

Just like this, the day passes.  The work in front of me did not have a considerable progress.  Huhuhuhuhu.

All those seniors have left, and I, Xu Duo Qian needs to work overtime again.  Nobody can understand this newbie’s sorrow ah.

I stretches, eats instant noodles and proceed to have a war with my unfinished work.

Yeah!  Finally done!  I can finally go home, can finally sleeps sound!  Don’t know if mom left me some dinner?  Hang on, let me check my favorite time-travel novel first.

At this time and age, time-travel novels are abundant.  If they didn’t time travelled to become and empress, then they would time travel as the daughter of an influential family.  If not as a beauty, then as another beauty.  And they all will bumps into handsome cool guys.  Why isn’t such a thing happening to me?

Ah, the electricity is out.  No way, why am I so unlucky?

I grope my way out of the office, hitting the east and bumping into the west.

Zzttt zzttt.

What sound is that? The light fixture on the aisle flickers repeatedly.  I feel a burst of fear in my heart, I am all by myself in a building with electrical problem late at night.

Weird sounds echoes from all around and I don’t have the guts to look behind me.  I don’t know why, I feel like someone is following me from behind.  The cold winds passing by my ears makes it even worse.

My foot slip, I can only hears the sound of rolling and rumbling and my own piercing scream, “Ah!”
