Chapter 3

A New Beginning

Those two maids brings me to that Qi Xia Building.  They helped me bath in a big bath tub, it was so comfortable!  Ancient people really knows how to enjoy themselves.  If I weren’t sleepy, I wouldn’t have left the tub.

When I wake up the day after, I stretch on the bed lazily.  My body is covered by a smooth, slippery brocade.  The bedframe is carved from strong solid woods and there is a veil that is thin enough to allow me to see the other side of the room.  I push aside the veil and gets off the bed, my feet landing on some smooth cottony white rug.  Woah, this is like a dream.

“Wangfei, you are awake.  This servant will help you change clothes.”  A beautiful maid interrupts my daydream.  “What is your name?  Come over, I have something I want to ask of you.”

“This servant’s name is Xiao Ru,” she answers me as she carries a stack of clothes.  With her help, I put on that outfit.  “Xiao Ru, from now on, don’t call me wangfei.  Just call me Xiao Duo!”

“This servant doesn’t dare to!”

“And don’t always go ‘this servant, this servant’!  Xiao Ru, why do you keep calling me wangfei?”

“Wangfei—no, Miss Xiao Duo, it’s a long story.  Let Xiao Ru help you comb you hair, I will tell the story as I do that!”  From what Xiao Ru said, there is apparently a Guoshi in this Long Yu Dynasty who can predict the future, his predictions are usually very accurate.  This imperial dynasty treats him like a god.  A month ago, this person told the emperor that Xuan Wangfei is going to arrive, she must be properly welcomed.  She will be the woman destined for Xuan Wang.  This Xuan Wang is the emperor’s heartache, ever since his mother, Noble Consort Xiao passed away, his entire person becomes cold and indifferent and ignores the matters of the state.  But the emperor dotes on him a lot.  He tried to bring up a couple of marriage prospects but Xuan Wang rejected them all.  The emperor heeded to him and never brings it up again.  So when the Guoshi told him that, the emperor was really pleased!  The will of the heavens ah!

Even though the Guoshi was considered as a person above this world, Xuan Wang did not believe him.  After all, the Guoshi told him that they only need to wait in the Great Hall.  He told them that the woman will not enter through the front door and that they only needed to wait, the rest will unfold naturally.

In order to watch a good opera play, Xuan Wang ordered his servants to welcome the mysterious wangfei in the Great Hall yesterday.  After waiting through the night, the person they ended up welcoming was me!

So it is like that!

I stare and stare at the reflection in the bronze mirror, is this really me?  After going through Xiao Ru’s expert hands; those slender eyes brows, that bright eyes, that elegant and lotus-like pink lips, that part-coil hairstyle on my hair that is fixed by an agate hairpin… Is this really me?  Aren’t I supposed to be a lady who lacks all three things?

After a little makeover, I turns into a beautiful maiden ah! “Thank you, Xiao Ru.  I was so ugly.”  After saying that, I circles around.  This green dress is really pretty!

“Miss Xiao Duo, you are so pretty.  Wangye will definitely be pleased once he sees you.  Let’s go, wangye must be waiting.”

“What does me being pretty has anything to do with him? But hm, since I’m hungry anyway, let’s go!”

I follows Xiao Ru through the twisting and confusing paths, I will definitely get lost if I live in this huge manor.  But the views here are really great. That elegant pavilion, that little bridge, that flowing water.  This manor is really not bad.  The maids we bumped into along the way all ask about me.  I can only smiles lightly, not saying a single word lest I speaks wrong.

“Miss Xiao Duo, we are here.”

“Thank you.”  In this entire place, I only knows Xiao Ru. But she is just a maid, a lot of things are out of her control.  As long as I foster good relationship with that master of hers, I will not encounter any problem anywhere.    Perhaps, I may even encounter handsome men and puppy love outside!

“You’re welcome.”

As I walk, I bump into something that feels like a wall.  “Is this how you walk?”

“Ah!” That wall can speak.  I raise my head, the person whose face can charm the entire world is right in front of me.

“Is this king that goodlooking?  Seems like you don’t have to eat, feasting on this king is enough.”  He coolly says that as he sits.

“Says who?  I’m afraid I’ll have no appetite once I see your face!  By the way, I still have no idea what your name is.  My name is Xiao Duo.  Please teach me a lot in the future!”  After saying that, I stretch out my hand and shake his hand like a total idiot.

“I am Long Zi Xuan.  Why are you pulling my hand?  Please remember your place.”

“Oh, sorry.  This is our custom.”  I am so embarrassed, my face is scalding hot.

“I am full.  You eat by yourself,” he walks away the moment he says that.  She really thought she could handle him.  Don’t tell her he thought she was going to eat him?  Haha!

As Long Zi Xuan walks away, he turns around to look at that girl who looks worried at one time, and pleased on another.  He raises his hand.  Her warmth seems to linger in his hand.  A trace of smile flashes in his eyes, seems like their upcoming days will be interesting.
