352. Bad Birds on the Beach

After that delightful roasted Basilisk chicken delicacy, I went to sleep, and resumed exploration the next day.

Carrying Alo, Nightmare, and Treant down the Great Tree with me, we traverse through the forest.

Today’s goal is to look for more Admirab Mandragora, just like how spices were a thing in history in my old world…… and also, to level Alo up.

Since Alo and the others just evolved, their level is low again.

With my assistance, they should be able to reach 1/3 of their max level in no time.

And, when that happens…… we can finally challenge the Adams and Eve residing in the ruins under the Great Tree.

Time passed, and we couldn’t find a suitable monster to farm with, and neither did we find any Mandragora either.

After walking around the forest for a while, we ended up on the beach.

I stretch my neck and look beyond.

What beautiful pristine waters…… if it weren’t for the Edge of the World over at the horizon.

…… I have so many questions in my head everytime I see this, but oh well, it’s still a nice scenery to look at.

Looks like there are less monsters here than in the forest.

Guess I’ll turn back…… but then, I notice three human-headed bird monsters, Sirens, gathered together.

The Siren’s head…… with their messed up, womanly face and feminine eyes staring at me. Their long messy hair, coarsed with sand.

Blood dripping out of their mouth from their last kill.

Yeah, I am still horribly disgusted at them, even now.

They’re definitely bad news.

Appearance aside, they’re all strong too, since individually, each one of them is Rank B……

Just as I was about to turn back…… I saw another of different skin color surrounded by the Sirens.

Then, an explanation about Sirens popped up in my head by God’s Voice.

Siren: Rank B monster

A monster with a female human's head and a bird's body.

The voice of aSirenis like a soft and gentle invitation that lures other creatures to their deaths.

They live near the sea and their favorite food is human meat.

Their song attracts sailors as well as afflicting them with a curse that slowly kills them. Afterwards, they peck the corpses of their prey.

A pile of human bones near the beach is an indication that it is aSirenhunting ground.

――A Siren’s favorite food is human meat.

That’s when I noticed.

The Sirens are gathering on that one spot because a human drifted along the shore.

The human does not show any signs of resistance nor movement.

He may already be dead.

I don’t even question why or how a human ended up here in the first place, so I just shot aWind Slashat the Sirens.

Though, since there’s a chance I could hit the human, I aimed my shot at an angle where it could miss.

It would be great if they get spooked by that and fly away, but…… that’s unfortunately not the case here.

The already ugly Siren faces turn into even more ugly angry faces.

Gru~ooooooo!”

Bring it on, you freaks of nature! I’ll take you all on at once!

I roar to attract the Sirens’ attention.

Wait, wat……”

Partner looks at me with a face of discontent and worry.

Yes, Partner.

I know what you’re gonna say.

But, I still can’t bring myself to ignore it.

This only shows that, deep down, I’m still human at heart.

And, besides…… if you think about it rationally, this isn’t a bad decision either.

A human to ending up here could mean something.

I just want to confirm it. Perhaps an unexpected truth could be revealed upon us.

Yea, but……”

I know, I know, Sirens are bad.

Each one of them is Rank B…… and, there’s three of them to boot.

But look at it this way, they’re just Rank B. One serious attack from us should be fatal to them.

And if Alo and the others pitch in to help, they can level up too.

In fact, isn’t this the opportune moment instead? Fighting one Siren at a moment will only level them up so far, so let’s just fight all three of them at once.

An attack from all three of them will be bad to Alo and co. but since abnormal status conditions don’t work on Alo, accompanied by my high magic power, we can avoid any bad status that they’ll try to give us.

And, if all else fails, we can just regroup and fight them again.

I stand strong as both the tank and the focus of attention.

Aahahahahaha~a~a!”

Aha, ahahahahaa!”

Hiha, ahahahahahahahaha!”

The Sirens fly low as they approach me, only to split up, coming at me in three directions.

Although slightly high-pitched, their cries are indeed human. A clear, elegant voice, like it was made for singing.

Come and get me!

You’re just measly B ranks…… you think you can take me on? Me?! An A rank?!

The difference in ranks is high, you know! Know your place, weaklings!

Hey, look”

What is it now?

Partner points with her snout.

The human that Sirens were swarming around is seen lying motionless on the sand.

The person was already drenched in blood…… and worst of all, he had no head.

I was too late, huh…… then, I noticed that no blood was leaking out of his neck.

Ah……? Ahh……!

Pushed by the waves, the corpse turns and lies sideways, facing my direction.

A dandy face is seen on the stomach. I know that it’s dead, but seeing that same expression as it was when alive, it’s an Adam.

What the heck?! Aren’t you supposed to be Rank A?!

Yesterday, an Adam got petrified by a Rank B Basilisk. And today, another is just Siren bait?!

Could it be that they were never that strong at all?!

I-I shouldn’t have bothered trying to help!

I should’ve just left it alone!

And wait, don’t Sirens love human meat? Are they just making do with a human-like monster?!

Treant is too heavy to carry for a quick escape now.

I’m reluctant, but we’ll just have to stay and fight as planned.

As long as I can see through their speed, I won’t expose my back to them.

Damn! This is all because I assumed they were preying on a human and got impatient!

Looking at Partner, she’s growling in annoyance and ready to bite me at anytime.

Okay, okay, I’m sorry…… really, I am.
