ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 338: Dragon! Dragon! Part 4 Part 2
Activating the skill Moment’s Sight, the world around me started to slow down to the point I started to perceive everything at a much slower pace. Then, in the world of slowed motion I saw the chest of the Red Dragon splitting open once more and spreading apart wide like the actual jaw that was about ready to swallow huge chunk of food…… In the next moment, I could see another tongue-tentacles shooting from that gaping opening and flying towards me. If Emul was still here with me, I imagine that right about now he would be screaming his lungs out, screaming something like “GYAAAAAAHHHHHH!!! THAT’S SOOOOOO GROOOOOOSSS!!!”. Needless to say, with the world being slowed down like that, it was actually quite easy for me to evade all of the incoming tongue-tentacles.
No, no, no…… I can’t say that doubling the amount of continuous backflips just like that was that easy. After all, I am by no means a gymnast or anyone like that. But even so, increasing my speed just a little bit, I know how it must look to others, who do not share my perception right now. For them, it surely must look as if the half-naked bird-person was back flipping through the air at an astonishingly fast pace.
When I finally managed to put some safe distance from the Red Dragon, I came to a stop with all of the grace of an Olympic gymnast. Then I glared at the Red Dragon, who also finished readjusting its position as well.
「Alright, and that’s about it! Ladies and gents, finish!」
At this moment I hit my chest again and the Levin Trigger / Disaster Hand comes to a stop…… Tsk, did the ten seconds mark already passed? Here I was forced to make a coin flip with the “Fool” Arcana to see if I would recover my lost HP. I guess that for now this is Sanraku’s biggest issue, something that just came into full view right about now…… After all, long lasting battles that are oriented on defense are not my forte! Fast paced combat using the one-handed swords is where I excel at!!!
Honestly speaking, Overflow state really is not necessary here. I can easily maneuver around this battlefield with my own mobility skills. I have known them for long enough to understand what they allow and do not allow me to do, they are more reliable and far less dangerous to use.
So I activate Flit Float and perform some aerial maneuvers that get me closer to the Red Dragon, and I slam Aradval Rebuild against its neck. On a side note, upon closer inspection it’s skin was full of holes and tears through which you could see the remains of its bones, muscles and arteries.
「…… Ooohh?」
In response to my attack, the Dragon’s neck fell to pieces and fell to the ground, where its chunks turned into the red puddles…… It was certainly a surprise, and I did not expect that something like that would go quite so easy here. But that brings us to an entirely different problem here.
「Isn’t that basically impossible?」
The fact that the neck parts form puddles at the ground means that they can put themselves back after some time. This in turn means that the body parts destruction is basically meaningless and that it won’t get us anywhere.
「Kuh……」
I have to do a brainstorming session here with my rear guard. Gosh, I would like for there to be a pause button in this game.
So in order to gain some much needed time here, I activate the secret technique of “Utsuro Mikagami”, which is going to focus some of the aggro on itself for a moment or two. With that taken care of, I give Deepslaughter a sign with my hand, and the two of us jump into one of the abandoned Elven houses in order to hold a proper strategy meeting.
「Oi, oi…… Man and woman alone, tight and closed space, suspension bridge effect…… I know that nothing should happen here, but maybe! Just maybe……!?」
「Maybe it would be of help if you actually stopped to view everything as R-18 flags, huh?」
This is clearly a horror here, not an 18+ movie. If so, we should expect a zombie, shark, or other kind of monster like that to burst through the wall and massacre us at any moment.
「Alright then…… Honestly now: what do you think? What are our chances?」
「I don’t think that brute force is going to cut it here. I mean, our attacks clearly connect, but they don’t seem to be doing anything at all…… Wait. A tuna?」
「That’s exactly what I was thinking as well…… And no, my head is not rich in Omega-3 acids, just so you know.」
Could it be that there’s a gimmick system in the working here? No, that’s actually unlikely. It is hard to think that a game would pull a gimmick on a party of forty five people and think that everyone would just role with it.
Just like with Unique Monsters such as Wezaemon or Kutanid, if the battle can be repeated, there is a high probability that there is a strategy that can be devised here and which is going to be effective……
「Say, you said that you happened to attack that red puddle before, right?」
「Hmm…… I am sure that my attack inflicted some damage to it, but I did not get a feeling like the thing was defeated, you know?」
Okay, and now a sudden voice change? And what’s this, is it from some sort of Eroge? It must be, right? Calm down, me. Tolerance. Be tolerant. Spirit of tolerance is important, otherwise people would not be able to play online games and enjoy them properly.
「…… So, is that a checkmate? Does that mean this is all over now?」
「Hey, hey, what are you saying all of a sudden? Why do you talk like someone who just happened to go off prematurely the very moment the things only started to be heating up? Well, that being said, even if we were to somehow increase our numbers or sources of damage here, we would still be unable to win this battle, I’m afraid……」
I thought as much myself. But still, is there not something that we can do here? Something that would allow us to turn this thing around, no matter, how much of an asspull that would have to be?
Could it be that Deepslaughter has some strategy in mind? I can say what I want about her, but even though her personality is evil, twisted and just the worst, the gears that are turning inside of her head are of the absolute top quality. However, she could tone it down on the sex jokes and innuendoes, that’s for sure.
「Hmmm, hmmm…… Hey, hey, Sanraku-kun? What do you say to that? How about you just leave it all to me and just entrust yourself to my Master Finger? I promise to take really~ good care of you……」
「…… Haah?」
「My, oh my! Please, don’t stare at me so passionately like that! If you continue to look at me like that, I might get all moist and shed thick tears of joy! And we can’t have that, at least not now, can we?」
Tears of joy? You mean the tears on your face, right? RIGHT!?
「Goodness gracious…… I know that we are both in the same boat hear, but leaving myself in your care seems like even worse idea than making a deal with the Devil. …… But oh well, what the hell! Let’s just do it!」
One of the greatest pleasures that gamers can experience in any game world is to slowly reveal all the mysteries and the secrets that the game world has to offer. Same thing can be said about monster and enemies. There is a sense of pride and accomplishment to seeing that you have managed to complete all of the entries in the monster encyclopedia.
This may sound silly, but it because of those small and simple pleasures that I simply cannot bring myself to stop playing games! That’s the reason why I still want to play more and discover more things that are to discover here!
「Alright! It’s time to do some much needed verification here!」
