Chapter 6 (1)

It was nothing, nothing really. After waking up from my sleep, Mo Shao Qian gave me a call and Xiao Shan was now out of my mind. He had arrived, I didn’t have excess energy to think of Xiao Shan. I needed to put my heart and soul into dealing with Mo Shao Qian.

I called for a car from school to get to the villa, and was filled with unease the entire journey. Lately, Mo Shao Qian was seemingly cold towards me, only visiting me once every two months this half of the year. I wondered if this was a good sign or bad one as I couldn’t tell if he was truly getting tired of me.

I got a shock when I entered the villa, the housekeeper was standing in the huge living room calling out instructions to dismantle the chandelier, and there were workers lifting the furniture. Everyone was busy, even Cutie was kneeling before the full length windows, fully immersed in the scene before him. Those removing the chandelier were concentrating on their task, even more so for the housekeeper who raised her head and called out, “Take your time, take your time, remove this first…don’t touch that…be more gentle…”

The huge floral patterned crystal chandelier was Mo Shao Qian’s most treasured possession, he loved collecting them. It caught his eye during a holiday to Europe and he specially brought it back. I was still dazed, Cutie saw me first, wagging his tail and barking as he ran towards me. That was when the housekeeper noticed me and told me hurriedly, “Mo Shao Qian is upstairs.”

The second floor was much quieter, only two workers carefully removing the oil paintings on the wall, all the commotion made it seem as though we were moving. I uneasily walked into the study but didn’t see Mo Shao Qian. I then knocked the door of the master bedroom and entered after hearing him say,”Come in.”

I didn’t see him when I entered, so he was in the cloakroom, still buttoning up his blazer as he walked out. Upon seeing me, he immediately raised his eyebrows, “What’s up with your eyes?”

”I felt the teardropped scar,”I got injured a while back.”

”He didn’t question further,”Go pack up your stuff.”

I was in a daze, and couldn’t understand what he was driving at.

He probably noticed as well and continued,”Pack what you need, I’ll move you into a new home. I plan to renovate this place, hurry, you’re not allowed to come back for anything you’ve forgotten to take along.”

After only moving in for two years, what need is there to renovate?

I cursed Mo Shao Qian’s ancestors while running into the room to pack up my stuff. He only stayed here a few days in a year, what was all these fuss for.

No choice, the rich person is the master.

In the evening, I was already having my dinner in a large restaurant located in a skyscraper in the city centre. I couldn’t fathom why Mo Shao Qian suddenly wanted to move into another place. However since it was decided, I’d better make the best of it. Even Cutie had his own room as usual, facing the only natural lake in this city just like the master bedroom. But it was too high, the far away lake surface looked like a huge piece of white jade. Cutie definitely wouldn’t like living in such a high place. It kneeled before the glass windows, whimpering uncertainly, perhaps from a fear of heights.

My room was on the second floor, just opposite the master bedroom. I was extremely turned off by the bathroom in my room. It had glass windows, without curtains or window screens, completely exposed, facing the wide expanse of the skyline.

Even though I knew that at such a height, there would not be any peeping toms but it still made me feel uncomfortable. So after I had my dinner, I took the opportunity to sneak into the bathroom in the master bedroom along with my bathrobe, while Mo Shao Qian was working in the study.

After locking the door I could finally observe the bathroom with ease. A capitalist sure knew how to indulge, the sunken bathtub was as big as a swimming pool, with a programmed massage system. The shelves were filled with a myriad of towels with different lengths and a neat row of bath salts, the kind that Mo Shao Qian had always been using.

Such comfort…as I immersed myself in the warm water, millions of bubbles rose to massage my skin. There was a remote by my hand, with just a press, the huge curtain blinds shimmered with dim lighting, it was actually an LED screen. The sound system was of course top of the line, dolby surround sound.

I found a paid television channel, watched two episodes of “Prince of Tennis”, and was about to fall asleep.

Drowning in this bathtub seemed like an extravagant way to die.

But I didn’t have such good fortune.

A hand reached out for my neck, slightly cool fingertips, causing my warm relaxed skin to shudder. I was so certain the door to the bathroom was locked that I spared no pleasantries and asked, “How did you get in?”

“There’s another door through the cloakroom.”

I was too careless, not realizing that there was another door. The water level instantly rose, Mo Shao Qian was well built, the moment he entered I felt this pool like bathtub become cramped. I lowered my eyelids and didn’t dare look at him, it wasn’t as though I had never seen it before but I wasn’t used to facing him so openly. I knew his body wasn’t all that bad, he had a personal trainer, had money, had everything.

He reached out his hands and held me, I was forced into facing his chest and could clearly hear the beating of his heart. I helplessly begged him,”Not here…”

What I was worried about didn’t happen but something that worried me even more did. His fingers caressed the scar above my eyelids and asked, “What happened exactly?”

His tone was calm, whenever he was about to burst into temper, his tone would always be calm. I knew that this wasn’t a good time to incur his wrath, so I answered obediently,”I went to watch a competition, and was accidentally hit by a schoolmate’s handphone.”

“Basketball?”

“No, robotics.”

He moved his fingers and started caressing my earlobes, and the hand that held me unknowingly pulled tighter. I could barely breathe, I was afraid that in a fit of anger he would drown me in the bathtub, or strangle me with a towel, or throw me out of the window and let me fall to my death…so I fearfully hugged him stuttering,”I didn’t do it on purpose…the doctor that anti-scarring medication cannot be used above the eyes…”

Surprisingly, he did not erupt into thundering anger as I expected. Probably because he heard his phone ringing outside, a call so late at night, was likely to be from his secretary. There must be some urgent company business, he let go of me and I hurriedly helped him with his bathrobe. I casually wrapped a towel around myself and as I walked I helped him to tie the belt. When I was done tying the belt on his bathrobe, he had already picked up the phone.
